Ermelo Animal Rescue
Visiting the premises of EARS this week, my daughter and I were greeted most enthusiastically by all the friendly dogs! There was gladness on their faces and much excitement to see us. At first I was concerned that they might be dangerous, only to realize that they are all very much socialized and are getting plenty of attention and care! The Animal Angels of Ermelo, Marle’ and Ronel, her husband and her very young children, each with two little puppies under their arms, obviously had no concerns! The husky mix immediately chose Emma and did not leave her side for a moment. These dogs are ready to be adopted and have oodles of unconditional love to give you, in exchange for your care. Emma enjoyed the visit so much that she has offered her Saturday mornings to help at the shelter!
We were given a tour of the premises, that are in urgent need of funds to complete the shelters. The more aggressive dogs are kept separately and closed in. The cats are also in a closed off secure building.
This is an appeal to all Ermelo residents. Please go and visit the premises and see for yourself. I have to admit that I was unsure about it – as I was concerned by what I might see and that it would be upsetting. Although I felt sad that these animals don’t have loving families taking care of them, it was heart-warming to see that there are people that do care!
The defenceless animals are the needy here! It is our responsibility as a community! We do not have an SPCA and certainly do need this service. EARS is a registered non-profit organization (095-961-NPO) and therefore your donation is tax deductable. Apart from the monthly overheads – the shelter needs to be completed, to give these animals some dignity and shelter from the Ermelo weather conditions.
Hennie Davel from Pennylane Guesthouse 017 8111404(currently also donating the food for the shelter!) will be on a fund raising campaign in Ermelo to motivate businesses to either donate a once off amount or to sign up a debit order for a monthly donation!
